Cans

Metals

What?

Drinks cans are made from aluminium.

A deposit was paid on them at time of purchase which can be reclaimed.

Where?

This should be returned through participating retail outlets.

How?

Returns can be made through Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) or manually, over the counter, at participating outlets.

Empty and undamaged cans, featuring the Re-turn logo, can be fed into an RVM which issues a voucher for an amount depending on how many and which sized bottles were returned. That voucher can be redeemed at the till either against an in-store purchase or for a cash refund.

Vouchers issued by RVMs can only be redeemed in the store in which they are issued.

Manual returns are made at a counter with a shop assistant who will check the cans have the Re-turn logo, are undamaged and empty. They will then issue a voucher for in-store use.

General Comment / Tip

Vouchers can only be redeemed in the outlet at which they were issued but cans can be returned through any outlet regardless of where they were bought.

Plastic drinks bottles (not milk) are also part of this Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) and can be returned in the same way, at the same time.
