NOx / Laughing Gas Cannister

Hazardous & Medical

What?

Classified as being hazardous waste, these are pressurised gas containers of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas).

Where?

These must never be placed in household or general waste bins.
Typically used in both medical and culinary settings, loose cannisters can now be found in public places, like parks, where they have been discarded following use as a recreational drug.

How?

CAUTION: Treat all canisters as potentially full. Wear suitable gloves and eye protection. Do not puncture, crush, heat or compact or place in general waste. Keep away from ignition sources. Consult your own Health and Safety advisor if in any doubt.

Disposal must be via licensed hazardous waste contractors (facilities or collectors) using approved treatment methods such as controlled gas destruction or depressurisation with metal recovery.
