Where?

If Styrofoam / polystyrene, it should be placed in your general waste bin or donated for further use via your local charity shop or Green Bubble.

If made from a water soluble or compostable material, it can be placed in your brown bin.

How?

If there is no instruction then test one peanut by placing it in some water if it is biodegradable it will instantly start to disintegrate.

General Comment / Tip

If being placed in the brown bin, it must be certified compostable. Look for the standard ‘EN 13432’ , the Cré tick or the seedling logo.

Biodegradable packing peanuts are made from natural, nontoxic sources, such as wheat and corn starch. They dissolve in water and can be thrown into compost piles after a single use. In addition, biodegradable foam peanuts do not have an electrostatic charge, meaning they will not stick to clothes.
