What?
Tea leaves and tea bags which made from natural products are considered a food waste item a
Loose tea leaves can be emptied directly into the food waste recycling bin. If you are using bags you should check to ensure they are made from natural products before placing them in your food waste recycling bin.
If they are not made from natural products you could tear them open placing the the bag part in the general waste bin and the contents in the food waste recycling bin.
Why?
The small amount of plastic used make the glue holding the bag together heat resistant. Most brands have removed all plastic from their bags meaning that the bag, once used, can be placed directly in the food waste bin.
